Download driver .zip .tgz or .gz or .tar as a binary...

1. Create on your "server/workstation" /mnt/floppy assuming it doesn't already exist...using a terminal window.

2. Insert floppy disk into drive...

3. "mount /dev/floppy /mnt/floppy" or on newer distros simply "mount floppy"

(Make sure you are not in the /mnt directory when you do this or it will not mount....)

4. Linux should automatically recognize the floppy as type VFAT.

5. Copy the needed files over to a dir on the hard drive. /tmp should be okay so long as you don't reboot. (/tmp empties upon a reboot.)

6. "umount /mnt/floppy" or "umount floppy".

7. Remove disk.

Very important...never edit the files within DOS/Windows...doing that will introduce ^M characters that will muck things up. If you have to edit any file - do so after you've gotten them onto the Linux machine using VI or EMACS or any other *NIX text editor.

If your modem doesn't work out...I have a 28.8 Rockwell Chipped hardware modem you can have - will be detected by Linux - no drivers needed. Uses an ISA slot.
