Re: Peeps are just more informed |
Hi Todd. Thanks for the information. I hadn’t realized there was that much of a difference in the way quakes are reported in the Southern California area. Seems a little strange that it is handled so differently. I recently learned that the USGS in Southern California and the USGS at Menlo Park are to become one unit. However don’t know when this is to take place, or which area will be the head office so to speak. I believe the OES did a tape on earthquake preparation that was aimed at Southern California, but don’t know if it has been shown yet. Petra would know more about that then I as she has been in contact with them. I do know from talking with seismologist at the AGU meetings that Southern California is an earthquake looking for a place and time to happen. The prime area of concern is the Coachella Valley segment of the San Andreas fault although that may have changed with the discovery of the fault under the City of Los Angeles. I know that after the Hector Mine quake there was some concern that it might trigger a quake in the area of Coachella Valley and or the surrounding area. This was due to the number of quakes that were occurring in the area. Take Care…Don in creepy town Follow Ups: ● Re: Peeps are just more informed - Petra 17:56:58 - 10/14/2005 (29375) (0) |
