The long delays are unfortunately typical.

One of my papers was a rebuttal which was sent to the author of the paper being rebutted for his comments. He proceeded to sit on it for around a year before the journal editor pried it out of him.

The internet can be too fast, as some of my recent posts have shown. It's too easy to go off half-cocked, a failing of mine.
