Question for Dr. Chouliaras

Hello Dr. Chouliaras,

I know your area of interest is in earthquake prediction and I wondered it would be possible if you might share with us, your point of view of what you see in the near or far future in this area. Also, depending on the time you may have available, I'd like to know if you have a theory of your own or what you may have learned that lends you to thinking some matters may be of more importance than others.

Personally I think even today with what is known, if there were special teams of people working in highly quake prone area's there is every reason to believe prediction is possible better than 50% of the time. However, its a combination of several factors.

1. Instrumentation
2. Natural Ingredients ie geysers
3. Lunar & Tidal data
4. Solar activity
5. Fault stress evaluation
6. Animals
7. People
8. Trained seismologists that know how to look at every known precursor, assess the fault stress and read the instrumentation correctly in making an assessment that leads to a valid prediction.
9. Citizens giving their consent that they are ready to receive a warning, even if not 100%, just like the weatherman.

I probably missed something up there, but that's most of it anyway. So if you can share your knowledge and experience, I'd love to hear your point of view.

Thanks....Pat
