Time To Check Out A Theory

Hi All. Time to check out a theory. The current hurricane is a pretty strong beast so there may be an affect from it along the west coast of California, Baja, Mexico, and Central America. Not sure if where it makes landfall has much of an affect so this is sort of guessing.

We should see fewer quakes along strike-slip and normal faults, but could see an increase in quakes along thrust faults. I haven’t any ideas as to where, or which thrust faults will be affected. I can’t even say for sure that they will be affected, but that’s what this all about. The timing on this is most likely the next 4 or 5 days.

The reason behind this is very simple and straightforward. There was an M=2.4 quake on the Green Valley fault. This fault is listed as being a strike-slip fault. The “first motion mechanism” shows the quake as being a strike-slip with thrust fault component to almost a pure thrust fault. I just thought it was a little odd to see that kind of motion on a strike-slip fault. Of course there is always the chance it didn’t occur on the Green Valley fault, or that the Green Valley fault isn’t the kind of fault it is listed as.

Now having said that I will assume my usual position in matters such as this. I will sit back put my heels up and wait and see what happens. Take Care…Don the laid back one in creepy town
