Don, I found that theory really hard to buy when Lowell posted it here some years ago. I plot of Moment release in the west over 30 years with landfalling hurricanes by Category (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) would be time-consuming to make, but would show whether there was anything significant. Actually, someone (John?) probably has a plot of moment release already and then all you would have to do is put the hurricanes on it... On the other hand, it makes more sense to me that there could be quakes triggered near the site of a landfalling hurricane (water loads due to storm surge). But, if there are no (shallow?) faults stressed to failure, there may be no quakes. On the other hand, the pressure changes from large waves triggered numerous submarine landslides during Ivan last year, which shut down 1 million barrels a day of oil production....
