May be 8.5, presume there is tsunami |
CNN interviewed someone from tsunami warning center. He said it was M8.5 (twice as much energy as 8.2, so important). He sais that a tsunami has not been confirmed, but assumes that there would be one. He also said that it probably ruptured towards the south (reasonable to me also), so energy is directed differently than the previous 9.3 (he just said "we don't know...this is just a guess". But, an 8.5 might rupture say, 300 km or 3 deg of latitude...and it would not likely re-rupture the same area...so it probably ruptured south of the epicenter (2 deg something north).
