Tsunamis

I was looking at an Atlas and it might not have been very long ago (couple hours) that Dar es Salam Tanzinia and Mombassa Kenya might have had a tsunami arrival...it is about 7000 km from quake, and if travelling 500 km/hr, would take 14 hours...so would have already happened. I tried to be more responsible by looking for tsunami information from warning centers, but the Pacific tsunami information was not useful for Indian ocean, there were no links to tsunami information centers for Indian ocean, and a very quick Google search did not find anything.

I'll look again.

I think it is the Maldives, SW but not too far from Sri Lanka, that are low coral atolls and that it will be ugly there...

South Africa may also be exposed to tsunamis...someone may want to find an official warning center for Indian Ocean to see what they have to say....

One other thing...there are quakes at 10+ deg, 12+ deg, and 13+ deg N. So, either this is a continuous rupture that is larger in area than anything ever recorded, or several separate areas are being activated. It does look like the rupture must have propagated NW along strike, so there would be some focus of energy that way...the epicenter of the mainshock is 3.3 N.
