Re: Chris, Roger & John - This One's For You |
Actually this is a really cool project. When you stop and think about it, maybe there could be a correlation. Maybe the magma deep in the earth that the faults lie on and that pushes the faults along may have some time rythm where it speeds up and slows down in even intervals...i.e. these intervals could be exact increments in 3, 5 or 7 days. Therefore maybe there are more quakes on certain days than others. Also....although Parkfield and San Simeon were exceptions, in the last 20 years it is rare there has been a sizable felt event in the San Francisco Bay area or LA Area during the workday 9-5. Here in LA lunchtime is as crazy as the rushhour. When stuck on the 10, 405 or on Wilshire or La Brea at lunch I always wonder what it would be like even if there were a mag. 5.5 in w/ in 30 mile radius during this crazy time. Lucky it hasn't happened. ALl the bigger events in socal last 20 years have been in the middle of the night, early morning hours and Sunday and Saturday afternoons. Indeed its worth looking into! I'd be curious to see.
