PSA's - Will We Ever Get Them?

Hi All,

I was reading the minutes of the last California Seismic Safety Commission's meeting in January. One of the topics of discussion was about the owner of the store in Paso Robles who sent his two female employees running outside, which caused their deaths. Some of the commissioners commented that they thought the people should have just done the Duck, Cover and Hold routine. They also listed their budget for the upcoming year and 4 items on the agency, which were really a snore.

The Paso Robles event should make it abundantly clear people still don't know what to do during an earthquake. In this case neither the store owner nor the employees thought about the "routine."

I sent an e-mail to SSC and suggested they work on Public Service Announcements. Just 30 second spots which can be produced for free, aired for free and made with the help of TV station personnel and the only costs involved would be to reproduce these video's and distribute them. I expect a budget of $3,000 or less would be adequate.

As to why PSA's are not already being used is beyond me, but there is always hope that somewhere along the way if I try selling this idea long enough, I may hit the right person or group and somebody out there will get their act together and teach Californian's how to survive during an earthquake.
