San Juan Bautista Quake

Hi All. I owe Petra. For about a week now she has been telling me that I was going to have a quake in my area. She was right.

USGS is listing it as an M>4.4. Berkeley is listing it as an M>4.6. Either way it was one of those just to keep you honest quakes. No noise with this quake. Just a sharp jolt then rocking that lasted for about 3 seconds. I was able to get to Mori before it started recording it. Sure was impressive.

The quake was about 5 miles WSW of where I live. The “first motion mechanism” shows it to be a strike slip with normal faulting component. The quake could have occurred on the San Andreas Fault or the Vergeles Fault. When it appears that the aftershocks have stopped I will plot the quake on my topo map and see if I can get a better picture of which fault it occurred on. Take Care…Don in creepy town
