any relation between French and Moroccan? |
Watched French news last night to see what they would have to say about the M5.3 (5.1 on the news) in France. Essentially zero damage reported (that ius a little surprising to me). They had people (scientists?) saying that there was no link between this earthquake and the Moroccan quake that followed. I would not be so sure, although I have no evidence-just a gut feeling. I've posted before that there seemed to be pairs of M6+ quakes occurring on the same day-usually a few hours to 1/2 day apart, and a couple thosand km apart-I mainly noticed this for the west Pacific. Too much delay for P and S wave triggering, too far and not big enough quakes for static stress changes.... Maybe if Roger is curious, he could take his M5+ catalogue, with all quakes within, say, 2 or 5 deg removed (to remove static stress-induced quakes and aftershocks), and maybe remove quakes more than 20 deg apart, and then make a graph of time after first quake for second quake-to see if there is a peak at 0 to 1 days... Could graph for 30 days. This might involve some fairly heavy number crunching? This could be limited to Pacific region.
