Roger-you may have a west coast bias. I live in the east,a nd the first research I did (not published) was on reservoir-induced seismicity. I'm remembering this from 1987, and I've been knocked on the head a few times, but I think it is Monticello reservoir in South Carolina that sets of earthquakes with water level fluctuations of just a couple meters. Of course, 1 m of water in an open fracture is 0.1 bar, not insignificant. But, most intraplate faults are not being loaded rapidly. So, instead of advancing quakes by minutes, Nano Seeber or Lamont has talked about, and published, that earthquakes are being triggered by man on faults that might NEVER have an earthquake without the trigger. Also, there is a little paperback book I read 15 years ago called "the New science of strong materials, or why we don't fall through the floor."-or something like that-defect free glass that is stronger than steel, etc. I forget the term, but there are little defects in crystals that can be broken by weak influences...these are tiny earthquakes. It is possible that such a quake might cascade if the situation was just so......Chris
