Basics indeed!

John, about every other note that I post here gets attacked in one way or another by one person or another. And in a way that includes you. The science that I am discussing is both perfectly reasonable and understandable for anyone with a moderately good background in science who is willing to invest a little time in trying understand it.

You are probably regarded as something of an authority on earthquakes. And you keep saying that the information that I am posting here is bad science. I feel that you are wrong about that and consider that criticism to be something of an unjustified attack.

Many of the people with whom I communicate are in positions where they can be affected by politics in their countries. And I am not going to say whom they are and let them get attacked by people posting notes here or in the Newsgroups just because they are talking with me!

Back to business,

I checked the PREM table which I am guessing you were referring to. And if I correctly understood what the symbols stand for then the data were just what I expected, in fact even better than I expected:

http://solid_earth.ou.edu/prem.html

The core has a density of 13088 kg/m3 out to a radius of about 1221 km compared with 2600 kg/m3 for the crust at a radius of 6368 km.

So, my air – water – stone in the balloon example is accurate as that table shows. The core is like the large stone in the balloon with a density difference of roughly a factor of 5 over outer Earth layer material.

Ocean tides have relatively little importance for the calculations I am presently doing. Besides, how could they be affecting earthquakes occurring in Afghanistan and Turkey?

These are personal opinion.
