Chris

Thanks for the encouragement. Unfortunately I was not aware of Lowell's contributions. I began my Digest about four years ago when Prodigy Classic became Prodigy Internet, and Allison Rhoden and I found ourselves out of daily Special Contributor jobs(I was her assistant and did Tuesdays and Thursdays).

Since my background is medical and religious, I became interested in seismology because of the mention of earthquakes in the eschatological literature, and added the volcanoes when I saw how important they were, even if not mentioned directly by name in the Bible.

This coming week has some remarkable coincidences going for it for a major quake. Sept. 2002 had a 7M quake. This August had two. Coming very close together are the New Moon, the Perigee of the Moon, the end of the retrograde motion of Mars, and Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish Religious New Year and beginning of the Jewish High Holy Days.
This is from September 26 through 29. In addition the big quake for the apogee was a 6M quake (in Chile/Bolivia), so the energy is there.
The four 6M quakes in the South Pacific could send energy across the Pacific tectonic plate, but anything there was minor on the past week total for California/Nevada. There were several small quakes in the eatern Mediterranean in the past week, mostly around Greece.

A geomagnetic storm of at least moderate severity continues.

I think there will be a major quake in the eastern Mediterranean in the next 20 days.

Donald
