Chris I do think two other principles are useful re earthquakes: One is my FIVE Rule, which I have not posted for awhile: FIVE quakes of FIVE.x in FIVE days can cause a volcano to erupt ash and/or gas to FIVE miles. One six.x M doesn't do the job. The other is the transglobal transmission of seismic energy to "remotely trigger" quakes. Sometimes it takes two 6M or greater quakes; sometimes there is no seismic response. The South Pacific is a repeated study in seismic energy triggering, either down a fault, across a plate, or transglobally, one example being a quake in the Samoa elbow followed shortly by another large quake in the elbow south of the Loyalty Islands. I do believe the South Pacific, especially around Fiji, will trigger some big eastern Mediterranean quakes. On the other hand, some regions trigger their own quakes, and awhile back there was a sequence from west of Gibraltar to a big quake in Turkey. As usual, nothing is certain, but there is enough correlation to keep doing the Digest, at least as long as I and the Net are available. :o) Donald
