Earthquake forecasting “triage” |
Petra, I would imagine that you are familiar with the meaning of the word “triage.” But some bulletin board visitors from other countries might not be. It generally means that you try to save as many lives as possible with the available resources. And part of that process involves being forced to let some people go off to the great beyond who might have been saved if there were more or better resources available. If I conclude that a really bad earthquake is about to occur I will usually drop everything and try to evaluate my precursor data and circulate a warning But I have found that there is not presently enough time to both evaluate those data for expected low destruction value earthquakes and do basic research. So, that triage concept is being applied. I feel that it is presently more important to make those research data available to scientists around the world regarding how gravity forces might be triggering earthquakes than it is to try to forecast the low destruction level earthquakes and warn people about their approach. I have to make those types of decisions in my normal business. So you could say that I am a professional at it. Regarding your suggestion that I circulate those gravity research data to people around the world, I am in the process of and have been doing that for some time now. But as I said in another note, just producing those charts in the first place takes a tremendous amount of time. And this latest one that I am trying to generate represents a real problem. It is so large that my chart production programs have so far refused to process all the data. So I will have to generate the chart in sections or find some other way to produce it. Finally, I am curious regarding what the outcome was with your water heater project. Weren’t you supposed to attend some meeting on it around the end of April?
