Re: Chinese Earthquake Kills Hundreds

Kate, first, as I have stated before, I feel that it is largely the responsibility of our governments and other official groups to prepare citizens for approaching earthquakes. In this case the proper authorities were sent repeated warnings by me, the first one on February 9. One of my warnings contained some fairly good location data. Another pointed to February 25 as a fairly high probability date for the expected earthquake.

Second, you should check Shan’s Web site where he posts public forecasts:

http://earthquake.itgo.com/today.htm

You can see that his February 22 forecast was fairly close. You cannot presently see his February 7 forecast data on that page. But it was also fairly accurate in my opinion. And I referenced it in my February 9 warning.

In my opinion it is up to each person or group to decide what is appropriate for circulating his or her own forecast data. In my case I presently prefer to circulate the information by telephone, FAX, and e-mail with some information stored at my Web site and an occasional mention such as the one in my EarthWaves report.

I will also point out that a sizeable international group of people including some who visit this board and the Yahoo EarthWaves board were sent copies of a warning update which I circulated on February 20. And I expect that if I were to ask any number of them to confirm the fact that they received a copy then they would do that.

There was quite a bit of correspondence exchanged during the past few weeks regarding a possible destructive earthquake.

Finally, as with many others, this is an effort which I myself am engaged in at considerable personal expense for humanitarian reasons. And there is only so much which can be done.
