Tony, and you're honest, insurance is a bit of a rip-off because the insurance companies have to cover not just you but lots of people who exaggerate claims and live in poorly built and maintained dwellings, as well as generate a modest profit. If your house has problems, some, like a poor connection to the foundation or an unbraced chimney or water heater, can be cheaply fixed. Then you need insurance even less. I don't have insurance, but you might be required to by your mortgage, which makes your preferences a moot point.
