Hi Petra. I know in the past if there was a problem with the data Tom would change the box to black or yellow, but would leave the data as is. However he hasn’t done that so far. I have tried to contact him, but so far no luck. As I have told you so often if you have to make an error make it the one that will cost you the least. If the data is correct we know the quake will be larger then an M>5.0. So now is the time to check your quake kit and make sure you have everything that will be needed. From what I have been able to learn is that if the data is good (not rain induced) and it suddenly drops to near normal the quake is on its way. What I don’t know is if this applies to every quake. I guess it remains to be seen. While this isn’t exactly new to me as I have seen the data that occurred before the Loma Prieta quake I have never seen it before any other quake. If a quake does occur and the data is related to that quake then we indeed could learn something from it.
