Hi All. Petra and I got a return from Tom at Earthquake Tracker. It sort of looks like a large quake isn’t in the offering. Not just yet anyway.

However this was a learning experience as he did point out an area that might be a quake in the making. As he has stated to me more then once. “Were still learning” Take Care…Don in creepy town

Hello Petra Nova,
We have examined the data from those days and concluded that the Santa Rosa site is behaving as if there is some water in the electronics enclosure. It does not make sense from a magnetic standpoint.

Petaluma, however, had some days (Dec 14-21) where the east-west and vertical readings could be an indication of magnetic activity. The North-South channel does not appear to be behaving correctly (it is oscillating similar to what we have seen when there is some contamination in the circuit board connector).

Black Point has a very strange evening signal that always seems to be present in the vertical channel. It has been there every day and is probably man made (the unit is next to a vinyard and may be picking up noise from something e.g. a watering system or ??)

Bottom line is that we look for significant "magnetic noise" that persists for a week or more (day and night) similar to that type of noise seen prior to the Loma Prietaquake (M7.1) in 1989 near Corralitos in the Santa Cruz Mts.) These sites don't meet that criteria yet.

Thanks for your interest--we are all learning how to detect noise from real magnetic signals as we gain experience.
We also believe that the threshold for detecting earthquake-generated magnetic signals with our equipment is around a magnitude 5 earthquake. At that level, there is enough rock breaking to generate enough ground currents to disturb the ambient magnetic field.
M3-4 quakes are too small.

Have a Happy and safe holiday
Tom
