X2 Class Solar Flare

X-FLARE: A powerful X2-class solar flare erupted at 2005 UT (1:05 p.m. PDT) on July 15thand triggered a strong (R3-class) radio blackout across North and South America. (From region 30)

At 20:18 UTC the Bishop Area, near Long Valley Caldera had a 4.1 quake.
Mt St Helen's appeared to have a couple small quakes - and Mt Hood has had some interesting activity that started last night - but seems to have started again after this flare. (or the webicorder is broken) - a few other Cascades webicorders look like some interesting activity other than ice melting or wind...

Solar Activity Forecast: Solar activity is expected to be moderate. Region 30 is likely to
produce isolated M-class flares. Region 30 could also produce another major flare during
the period.

Geophysical Activity Forecast: Geomagnetic field activity is expected to increase to quiet
to active levels on 16 July due to recurrent coronal hole effects. Activity may increase
to active to minor storm levels on 17 July following today's X-flare. A greater than 10
MeV proton event is expected to begin early on 16 July, also due to today's X-flare.
