Actually, it was my impression that Kp index is a good indicator or geomagnetic storminess, even if it is measured from space. I think it is the index that Lowell uses when he is talking about storms. I could be wrong, so if Lowell is not watching, can Canie address this? And, concerning the moon and the sun: I think what EQF is saying is that there is a new moon, which happens once every 29 days. And, yes, that means that the sun, the moon, and the earth all form more or less a line (also occurs during full moons), and the ocean and earth tides are larger at new and full moons. But, I don't think that global correlations with seismicity have been seen, even though the stresses may be relatively large compared to some effects that do trigger earthquakes (I'm getting in a little over my head here, but this should be generally correct).
