Southern California earthquake drought

Michael, SCSN has listed 14 earthquakes of any magnitude during UT April 30. Apparently the USGS simply hasn't added these to their listing yet. While 14 certainly is on the low end of earthquake count for the region, it is not the record. The least number of events in Southern California on a given day since Jan 1, 1999 is 3, recorded on April 13 and April 14 during the current quiet period. The next is 7 events on April 16 also in the current drought. In fact April, 2002 has been the least seismic month in the past 4 years (at least - that was all that was checked). Six of the quietest 16 days in the past 4 years have occurred in the area in April, 2002. Following is a listing of the 20 quietest days in the SCSN catalog starting with the quietest. # ev YR MO DA 3 2002 04 13 3 2002 04 14 7 2002 04 16 9 2001 12 24 10 2002 04 12 11 2001 07 06 11 2001 07 07 11 2002 04 17 12 2001 07 12 12 2002 03 17 13 1999 2 28 13 1999 3 31 13 2002 04 18 14 1999 2 6 14 1999 4 2 14 2002 04 30 15 2001 03 30 15 2001 04 02 15 2001 04 22 15 2001 11 29 15 2002 03 13 16 1999 4 6 16 1999 6 21
