Southern California dry spell

Your intuition is correct Michael,
It has now been 3 days since the last Ml>=2 earthquake was registered in the
region of southern California (SCSN catalog region).
Checking back through the SCSN catalog two periods are close, but not as quiet as
the current quiescence.
On Feb 15 and Feb 17, 2002 there were no earthquake of Ml>=2 recorded in the
SCSN catalog - the only previously occurrences during 2002. However three
events of Ml>=2 did occur on Feb 16.
In 2001 there were 5 days where no Ml>=2 event was recorded. The longest dry
spell was Nov 26-27, 2001 with none on either day. Other dates without Ml>=2
events were Feb 8, Nov. 11 and Dec. 31.

I might add that in all but one case these were followed within several days by a
significant regional event of swarm.
The quiet in mid-Feb 2002 preceded a Ml 5.7 in Calexico 5 days later
The quiet on 11-11-01 preceded by 2 days a Ml 4.1 and swarm at Bombay Beach
The quiet on 12-31-01 preceded a strong Calexico swarm 4 days later (Ml 3.4,,,,)
The quiet on 02-08-01 preceded by two days a Ml 5.1 at Big Bear
The quiet on 03-06-01 preceded by one day a Ml 4.0 south of L.A.

Only the quiet period in late Nov. 2001 had a longer than 5-day delay before a significant
event - that occurred on Dec 9 as a Ml 4.4 south of Yuma.

You may recall that the quiet period in late November last year was also associated
with the last X- class solar flare and strong geomagnetic storm - coincidence?

One such day occurred in 2000 - March 6.
There were no days in 1999 in southern California without an earthquake of Ml>=2.
