Re: Geomagnetic storm activity – warning signal lull

Hi EQF. The use of geomagnetic storms in predicting earthquakes has been around for about a 100 years. I have used it from time to time in some of my forecast.

The biggest problem in using a geomagnetic storm in an earthquake prediction is that it's not that reliable. It may work one time and then not the next time and in some cases on the same fault and very near the same location as the last one. This doesn't prove anything, because it doesn't tell you when it will have an affect and when it won't.

There is no way to prove that the quake or quakes occurred because of the storm, or that way would have occurred anyway with out the storm.

However as more data is collected there does appear to be connection between the two most particularly in the area of active volcanoes. However a lot much more research has to be done in that area before any real good answers can be make.

When an extraordinary claim is being made extraordinary proof has to be shown. To date no proof has been shown that the geomagnetic storm was the factor that caused what would have been a moderate to become a major quake.

There are a number of quakes that have occurred during a storm, but that doesn't mean the storm was the cause. It would was going to be a major quake storm or no storm. Take Care…Don in creepy town
