4.6 Santa Barbara Island

Concerning link on 2cents post: I am not Chris Goldfinger.
Hi all, Lowell: Is it safe to assume that the 4.6 occurred? I see it on the SCEC map, but it is not mentioned on the NEIC page, and the NEIC page is updated to later earthquakes. Also, I thought you stretched too far giving Don credit for the Los Osos prediction-that undermines credibility in evaluations of earthquakes that are smaller but corrected predicted by Don. In other words, Don does lots of predictions and he will often have some earthquake predicted that will fall that far out of the location and magnitude window (why did you choose choose Los Osos and not some other prediction). Concerning the faults out there: it is plotted west of the Santa Cruz-Catalina Ridge fault, which is part of the San Clemente fault system (see underwater pictures taken much farther south on 2 cents link). It is just south of where I have mapped, but I have a seismic reflection profile that should cross this structure. There is a stratigraphic boundary in the general area, that may be along a fault called the east Santa Cruz Basin fault zone. Why don't I end this post now, and if I get a chance in the next couple of days, I'll look at the focal mechanism (type of slip) and plot it on a map, and see if I have anything more useful to say. I have started to look at the big compressional fold trend that is even farther west. The question is whether buried ("blind") faults may be causing these folds (I would say "yes"), and whether these faults are rooted back towards the mainland (I would say, "I don't know", but it is plausible....).
Chris
