Re: Unscientific vibe . . . |
Hi Tony, I agree with you. The long over-due may be not so far away. While I think the area North of Ft. Tejon is more likely, a big quake could occur in a number of prime area's throughout the state. But when I feel as strongly as I do about getting everyone ready I don't just sit and twiddle my thumbs, I wrote to folks who have the power to do something about it. In the last month I have written to the OES, the USGS in Menlo Park and the big Chief, Charles Groat, the head of the USGS. I've asked every one of them to give some consideration to making free, short earthquake preparedness messages to go out on radio and TV. They are part of public access and are totally free, except the video or audio materials. Is is so much as to ask some to get motivated on the publics behalf and put in a short little prepredness message out all over the state? Well, it must be because I haven't heard word one from any of them. If it takes a grant to do this little project, then I'm sure a grant could be obtained. After all, the benefits of folks preparing is only going to help those who are needed the most from having to deal with such minor other matters. Just conveying to people not to call the police department and ask them about an earthquake when they have no emergency could be of tremendous benefit. The spots can be informative, but not scary and so much good could happen from this one single effort. But I am only one person and I on my own may not be enough to push this matter forward. If you or anyone reading this message is in favor of preparedness messages on radio and TV, use your e-mail and write those in authority and ask just as I have.
