PREDICTION - Predict CA quake >=M6 by Jan 22
Posted by Billion Watts on January 04, 2002 at 18:53:25:

Magnitude: =6.0
From: Jan 4, 2002/ 2130EST - To: Jan 22, 2002 / 2200 EST
Location: California
Top Latitude: 40N - Bottom Latitude: 33N
Right Longitude: 124W - Left Longitude: 118W

As I promised, I did not make a prediction for at least one month following my last wrong prediction on 11/2/01. If I'm wrong about this one, I vow to do it again, in order to keep the board free of frivolous predictions.

I believe the conditions look right for a major (>=M6) quake to occur relatively soon in California . Call it gut, or whatever you want. The flurries of recent quakes North and South of the locked area (big bend), and the activity in the bend area itself is a little spooky.

I've been thinking about the relationship between the San Andreas fault, Garlock Fault, and the locked area at that location. It could be that part of the pacific plate is trying to split at the Garlock fault and subduct beneath itself, in order to overcome the pressure of the the locked area in the Tejon Pass region due to the bend. I believe Don mentioned that Garlock was a thrust fault, so this would make sense, yes?

All the best, Billion
