...and I thought Fresno was bad...I guess some people actually like the desert. Otherwise there would not be a town with a name...like Barstow was one of those places where folks coming west on the train, stopped to send a Western Union telegram back east pleading for money to go back or out to LA. teling folks that if the City of Angels is anything like Barstow, they will have retribution on them at the station.

I have had the misfortune of being in Barstow in a 1963 Pontiac Tempest; a four cylinder job with a rag top and no air conditioning..We kept the wing windows open and hung plastic bags of ice in there in hopes of surviving...

I have a notion that if a 8M quake even had a chance of hitting Barstow, nobody would care:-)
