I read that yesterday myself - I was discussing it with my husband and we thought it was rather a stupid thing to order those CD's destroyed - what could possibly be on the CD that isn't on every map that is published?

So rather than getting all your info on one CD you might have a map of the state and then pick a topo map or 2 and you've got the info again - its not like any of the aquaducts, rivers, dams, dikes are being moved from month to month to a new location! Gee, Where is Hoover Dam this week?

Pretty silly thinking on someone's part....
