I feel differently about that article after one of the tanks belonging to our local water facility was found vandalized on Dec. 5. According to Bay Area newspapers and TV, the FBI and local police swarmed a water tank serving 1,500 customers after workers found locks on the gate and the top of the tank cut by an unknown party. I live in the area of town where notices were distributed asking us not to use water for several hours while water from that tank was flushed from the distribution system. Bottled water was offered to customers during that time, and the water company's notice included this statement in large, bold, underlined print:
CUSTOMER HEALTH AND SAFETY IS OUR HIGHEST PRIORITY

Destroying a CD database seems too drastic, but restricting access to that database while there are threats of terrorism might not be much different from the kind of protection most of us use when installing anti-virus software on our computers. If not completely protected, at least when access information is harder to locate we feel somewhat less vulnerable.
