Re: Earthquake IRC?

Canie,
It seems to me that this board as it is currently constructed is more than adequate.
I have seen chats here that extend over several hours. The advantage of the
current system is that anyone can address any problem at their leisure AND
give their response some consideration and thought. A secondary advantage is
that any predictions or statements that are made are accessible for further checking.
It is too easy in a chat room to say two weeks later " Don't you remember I said
there would be a big earthquake in the south China Sea on such and such a date".
There is no way to check such a statement if archives are not kept. This is not
to imply that anyone would intentionally be dishonest in this regard, but faulty
memory hits us all especially when we are sitting around talking - we think we
say something, and that is not really what we said at all. It is also important
where thought content is the material aspect to give considerable thought
to what you say and write and this can't really be done during a chat..
As for me, I am satisfied with the current system. I doubt very much if I would
participate much if at all in a chat-room situation.
