Programming Language - December 27, 2013

Roger,

Now that the Fortran version of the SunGP program can process so many earthquakes so extremely quickly I believe that it would be well worth the effort to try to expand Fortran’s capabilities so that it can draw charts and do other Windows related things such as execute “sleep” commands.

Then some significant research could get underway with a Windows customized scientific version of Fortran that we could develop. The necessary libraries would need to be obtained for that version.

TB charts are simply not compatible with Windows and Windows programs. And it is a processor time hog. One of the nice things about Gnuplot is the fact that it is highly compatible with Windows. When you generate a chart you can tell it what size you want the window to be. And it remembers that information for the computer it is on.

I am going to be asking some questions in the Fortran Newsgroup to see how versatile it is. And I still think that Skywise should consider Fortran instead of C. As I said, it is possible that Fortran does produce C code when it compiles.

I will also give the Perl people another chance to provide some help with the PDL module. I did get it running. But it would not execute certain commmands such as "Plot." However, I think that getting any help from them is likely a lost cause.
