USGS web changes

As some may have already noticed, the USGS has yet again replaced their interactive map. I had to upgrade my browser just to use it.

But it goes beyond that.

Every map page has been eliminated in preference for this new map. For example, the map for Parkfield is gone.

It seems just about everything has to go through that new map server. Even the catalog search.

But I just discovered another surprise. Just for the heck of it I checked some saved bookmarks I had for specific quake events, such as the Japan quake. THOSE are gone too!!!

I guess progress has its price.

I will say, though, that I'm not put off by the feel of the new map. I kinda like it. Just a tad slow for my taste.
