They had an article about aging, followed by some comments that were totally unnecessarily nasty about old people spendisng their time sitting around watching "I Love Lucy" and waiting to die.

Made me furious. Yeah, we're old...and getting older and some of us aren't as sharp as we were. But I reminded folks that us "elderly" contribute a massive amount of volunteer work (our hospital would not be open without the 200 volunteers!)at hospitals, museums, serving on civic boards,etc. We provide a great deal of child and elder care (often to each other) and serve to transmit culture.

Anyway...my letter is in this month's Discover mag. Sorry to be off topic. I use my geology degree as a City Planning Commissioner, Grand Juror, Museum Docent, etc. (for which I am paid nothing). Anyway...
