I'm so proud of all of you! To Chris for following through and finally seeing success. To Penny for telling Discover off! What garbage, to put it politely! I'm going looking for that article. Such arrogance and they published that! To all of you for what you do and for your contributions. Keep doing it.
Someday soon, seimology is going to become "popular" again. What it will take is another Northridge - or worse - and everyone, from the folks at Discover to the slackers in Washington will have new attitudes. The cost is brutal and could be, no, should be, mitigated now. Just as we are not a country of savers, we are a people who would rather ignore that they, too, will become old; a people who would rather chance disaster, rather than prepare for it; but worst of all, a society that has become way too prone to work for individual gain and selfish reasons (such as those Chris and Roger mentioned) rather than to promote one another and to advance society out of this "People Magazine" hole we've dug ourselves.
Sorry to be on such a soapbox tonight. Too much time reading, writing, and studying - and being rather peeved at what television has mutated into - are those people even remotely real? It's like watching a reality train wreck with every flip of the channel! Truthfully, I've been fighting the "Big C" since November (so far, so good) and I'm shocked by what I've learned both about cancer, science, what is actually important to people these days, and so much more. I guess you call say it's about how stupidly the world is "trending." Sheesh! It has to swing back around because if the world gets any more shallow and self-absorbed, we'll wipe ourselves out with our own cell phones. Anyway, seven more weeks of chemo and hopefully, I'll get the okay to resume my life. Stay safe, be healthy, and worry less about the little stuff. Life is too brief to live any other way.
