You know Lowell, when I was in college, everyone had to go to the small town just south of us to see "The Gurdon Light". The night I decided to go, we walked down these old abandoned railroad tracks trying to scare one another until we came upon a couple of guys with all kinds of equipment who were testing a theory that the "light" was actually ball lightening caused by the quartz deposits in the rock rubbing against each other as a result of seismic activity. A fault runs right through the area. I don't know if they ever proved their theory but it certainly put a damper on our evening of terror.
