Hi Lowell, As my friend lives on an island, I worry more than I would for someone inland, just off of Lake Washington. So after I made my post, I did the best I could. I sent an e-mail to the Seattle Times under their "news tips" section and explained the situation and gave them the Canadian link so they could become better informed. Much could be said about Bill Gates, but here is something you may not know. He has a very humanitarian foundation that funds many projects and so we can't give him a black eye all of the time. Though I can say two years ago he had no interest at all in earthquake prediction. I should check back, his thinking may have changed. I know it has been tough to place news stories that did not revolve arount the New York, Philadelphia and the Pentagon trajedies, but life does present hazards as you mentioned with storms and earthquakes. We cannot set aside informing the public of the possibilies of earthquakes and/or tsunamis when such unusual activity is occurring. I think you would agree. Petra
