Just a thought. A strong swarm of earthquakes occurred in Hawaii the day of Loma Prieta (19 October, 1989). This was probably due to the X20 solar flare on 19 October, however, and was likely not completely caused by far-field triggering. Following is a listing of the most active days seismically in Hawaii in the past 20 years: # events/Dates 268 6/23/1982 207 6/24/1982 233 3/3/1992 233 1/2/1983 193 11/17/1983 189 11/16/1983 168 9/25/1982 124 9/26/1982 147 12/9/1982 143 1/1/1975 138 8/10/1981 133 8/12/1981 129 1/7/1983 124 10/19/1989 122 3/26/1991 115 11/18/1983 103 1/5/1983 99 8/11/1981 99 11/29/1975 96 1/20/1981 92 7/22/1996 87 6/25/1989 86 12/19/1991 85 1/21/1982 83 6/22/1982 80 11/19/1983 80 10/11/1989 80 1/2/1975 79 6/26/1989 75 1/3/1983 74 7/23/1996 Also affecting the timing of this swarm may be a tropical depression currently directly south of Lo'ihi Seamount - for tracking infomation on this weather system see: http://www.wunderground.com/auto/HurricaneSite/tropical/tracking/cp200101.html
