I don't know if this is related to your observations or not K2, but the most interesting earthquakes today occurred in the eastern portions of the United States. Two (Ml 2.0 and 1.7) occurred in Alabama. The Ml 2.0 is the largest earthquake recorded in northern Alabama since Dec 12, 1997 when a Ml 4.0 occurred in the same general region. The last earthquake recorded in northern Alabama occurred on April 22, 2000 (Ml 1.7). There was also an earthquake of Ml 1.7 in south-eastern Maine today. This is the third in a recent series that began in mid-August.
