Hi Beth & Dennis, I find it most amazing the number of tones people can hear. To try and explain it for me it seems if you could tell someone you heard a sound just like when kids used to play with toy telephones, two cans with a string between. Only imagining it as in modern times, a fibre optic fine wire with a sound traveling toward you. The distance can be determined by the length of the sound, the pitch by the size of the earthquake, and the third component: clear is for tectonic quakes, scratchy for volcanic and watery for off shore quakes. That's as close as I can define it. Yet, its only part of the experience. There are ear clicks, the deaf sound like your ears plugged up or someone had their hands over your ears, a stabbing sensation which can be very painful and probably a few others I failed to mention. I anticipate sometime in the distant future, one day this will no longer be considered an odd phenomena, but will be proven to be most useful in the final definition of when an earthquake will be arriving. Thanks to so many who have over time told me about themselves I can say to the non-believers, the people who have these experiences are not psychics, lunatics or have some kind of mental imbalance. They are people who have a couple of things in common. They love people, are very spiritual and most often love gardening. In the matter of other interests, other than earthquakes, there are none. The occupations are as broad and wide as they can be. They are from every sector of society and every financial consideration as well. But the most interesting part is that you can learn to be an earthquake sensitive, its a learnable skill. Perhaps one day, there should be a school for this an then everyone can share in the experience of hearing the earth giving out her not so mysterious sounds. Pat
