Guess it depends on the makeup of the ring. Meaning I don't think we had a whole lot of moisture up in the atmosphere. I've noticed rings around the moon before on two different occassions followed by moderate 4.5+ type quakes. These other occurrences though were of a different color then what Marc saw. Probably due to how clean the air is. You know, smog = a burnt orange color --- unless I'm color blind.

I can't say one way or another whether this is a common occurrence or not. Only that it seems to be something interesting to watch for.
