There is a feeling that large EQs are increasing in numbers, but you can see from the above reports and this +7.0 totals by year, that this isn't really true. There was a big increase in 1995 and 1996, but by 1996, the total number of +7s had returned to yearly totals of roughly one a month.

Additionally, there is about one +8 per year, but there were only three +8s during this time frame and the last one occurred on 3/25/98. These are not included in the +7's count below.
