Effects from recent event in New Zealand on Bangladesh

Don, In response to your query regarding the effects of recent earthquakes on Bangladesh, I might point out that this area is located at the shadow zone boundary (103-106 degrees away) from the New Zealand earthquake. The author of the far-field forecast notes "Nepal". This is a region where seismic energy is strongly concentrated and it would not be surprising to see some far-field aftershocks in the Bangladesh area. Given the upswing in seismicity you discuss here, one of these aftershocks could be in the magnitude 6 range. There were events in the general region (see far-field aftershock forecast) in Andaman Islands (Ms 7.2), in 1914 and in Myanmar (Burma for the current-event uninitiated) in 1930 (Ms 6.3, 6.0) after similar N.Z. events, so the historical precedent is certainly there. was
