Hi All. Last night had to have been one of the few times I didn’t check the USGS sites. As you can see the 3.2Ml we had this morning was starting yesterday. This is one of the classic examples of an earthquake in progress. No strain build up was seen with this quake as the site that has indicated all of the past 7 quakes in the immediate area is down and is not likely to be up before next year. This is not seen with every quake in this area as the data only covers the San Andreas fault. Also the timing is not the same for all quakes. There was an acceleration in creep just before the 4.1Ml we had a week or so ago near Tres Pinos. No strain build up was seen with that quake either. With each quake I learn a little bit more. If I had to say what the one thing I have learned would be is that each quake is an individual unto itself. Each one is different. Take Care…Don in creepy, but sometimes shaky town.
