Re: Shasta Flooding

Thanks for asking! We have had major wind and rain, but fortunately I'm on the far slopes of Mt. Shasta, so reasonably safe from flooding here. A lahar might be another matter---but we all live somewhere! Possible avalanches, but I don't live in a threatened area for this. The area around us is getting into trouble, however, with the Yuba, Truckee, Klamath Rivers getting up there. I haven't seen Jim Cantore yet---but who knows? As always, the power does go out here a lot due to many trees and bad weather. So far, so good, but I keep the headlamps and candles available! It looks as if Mt. Shasta might break the national all-time snow record. With all of our rain here, the mountain must be getting a real layer! AND...we did have a very small earthquake yesterday just north of the city--looks as if it was on Everett Hill, a very old shield volcano dating to the earliest Shasta eruptions about 400,000 years ago.
