The link is to a news article about a paper on earthquake hazard maps and how these maps cost lives when they are not accurate. The word "study" is a link to the actual scientific article. http://www.earth.northwestern.edu/people/seth/Texts/mapfailure.pdf Presumably the authors paid for open access; if not, it won't be linked long. I have long thought that the bib bullseye over New Madrid (central USA) is likely to be in accurate but a very quick look makes me think the authors retain the bulls-eye. I think, base on logic and GPS but not hard data, that the next M7+ central USA quake will be not there, but maybe instead on the edges such as Indiana or Arkansas south of the high hazard contours. Or just plain somewhere unexpected. Chris
