Other Hopeless Causes - August 28, 2012 |
Bill Nye is about as likely to be able to convince the evolution skeptics that evolution is a fact rather than just a theory, as others are going to be with the following. And since this is Republican National Convention week here in the U.S. this list will start with them. Convincing Republicans that there are energy sources that don’t have “Oil Well” somewhere in their energy source name. Convincing Democrats that they need to do more to develop new sources of environmentally safe, affordable energy than just talk about it. Convincing the reported 20% of adults in the U.S. who believe that the world is flat that it actually has the shape of a globe. Convincing U.S. voters that they should make an effort to elect officials who actually know a little more than just how to say, “If you elect me then I will cut your taxes and get rid of all of that government waste.” And finally, the most difficult, frustrating, and totally hopeless challenge of all (humor intended): Convincing geology specialists that earthquakes can in fact be predicted.
