Forecast Program Hardware Updates Now Complete – August 25, 2012

Since the beginning of the year I have spent a lot of time doing some major updates on my Earthquake Forecasting Program computer software and hardware. Those updates are intended to dramatically reduce the amount of time required each day to collect EM Signal data and convert them to computer text file records. And so far, they have been getting the job done.

The final hardware update (hopefully) was completed earlier today. It involved getting hold of linking hardware that makes it possible for me to communicate with the computer using human voice.

Some of the equipment is a Bluetooth wireless microphone and a Bluetooth computer USB port receiver. To cover the possibility that those devices won’t work I also purchased a 16 foot microphone extension cable that I have already tested. And it works. Voice messages are not significantly degraded over that distance. But the use of a cable means limitations on mobility.

The voice input will be used with the Dragon Naturally Speaking program for direct text file entries and also starting and stopping computer programs.

NASA would be proud of me!

And, I am actually thinking about trying to get them to duplicate the complete system using cell telephone technology etc. perhaps to send information to Internet Web site based CGI programs so that people can submit Ear Tone times etc. to the Web sites.

Additional Note regarding NASA

It has just been announced that the first human to set foot on the moon, astronaut Neil Armstrong, has just passed away at the age of 81. Such a loss. Our first lady astronaut, Sally Ride, also died during the past week or two.

Astronaut Armstrong reportedly suffered fatal consequences from some heart bypass surgery done a month or so ago.

People need to be really careful regarding what hospitals and doctors they select for various procedures such as heart surgery and cancer treatment. Don’t just trust that any hospital can do a good job just because they are certified. I believe that medical groups recommend that people find treatment centers that do a lot of procedures of the type that they need, with a high success rate.

I suspect that astronaut Armstrong’s departure might have been avoided. In this day and age we should not be seeing fatal consequences like that from heart surgery.

These are personal opinions.
